On Tuesday, August 2, 2016, the Town of Kearny celebrated National Night Out Against Crime, an annual event sponsored by the Kearny Community Policing Unit.  Hundreds of town residents turned out for the event held on Belgrove Drive and Veteran’s Field which featured a wide range of activities for children including a bounce ride, and ice cream and a chance to spray a fire hose at a target.

Representatives from many local groups including the Municipal Alliance, Prevention Coalition, Junior Police Academy graduates, Liberty Family Success Center, Kearny Bank and Provident Bank, provided health and safety information. Members from the Kearny Fire Department, Police Department, Emergency Squad, and Hudson County Sheriff’s Office were present with their latest equipment including the new police rescue boat.  A DJ performance and an antique car display entertained the adults.

National Night Out is a crime, drug and violence prevention program designed to promote cooperative, police-community crime prevention efforts.  Two of the highlights of the evening were a demonstration by a Hudson County Corrections Officer and his police dog Zorro, and a visit from the New Jersey State Police in a helicopter.
