Kearny, NJ – The Town of Kearny held its Annual Senior Picnic on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at the Doyle Pavilion River Bank Park from 12:00 Noon until 3:30 pm.
Now in its 25th year, the senior picnic is sponsored by Mayor Alberto G. Santos and the Town Council through funds earmarked from the Municipal Alliance Against Substance Abuse. It is the largest event focused on the senior population in the Town of Kearny. Open to all Kearny seniors 60 years of age and older, the event has grown each year in size and number of attendees.
Nearly 200 seniors attended this year’s picnic on a beautiful late spring day, enjoying a barbecue lunch cooked by Kearny firefighters, music by DJ Wolfie, and free raffle prizes and gifts. Seniors also took advantage of free blood pressure screenings and health education materials.
The Senior Picnic has become a Kearny tradition at which many of the seniors in town gather for an afternoon of fun, food, music, entertainment and conversation, providing a venue for seniors to meet new people and make friends.
Many thanks to Senior Picnic Chairperson and Councilmember Carol Jean Doyle, Council Members Marytrine De Castro and Albino Cardoso, Mayor Santos, and the many other volunteers that assisted throughout the day. The Town of Kearny also extends its appreciation to the Kearny Police, Fire, Health and Public Works Departments, Catholic Charities and Alaris Health for their efforts in making the event successful.
