On Sunday, March 15, 2015, Irish eyes were smiling and hundreds of people lined Kearny Avenue to enjoy the parade as the Town of Kearny celebrated Saint Patrick’s Day by participating in the 42nd Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade organized by the United Irish Associations of West Hudson.
The Kearny Health Department sponsored a free Rabies clinic on Saturday, February 21st from 10am-1pm. The clinic was held at the Kearny Water Department Complex and was very well attended. A total of 432 dogs and 24 cats were vaccinated. A representative from People for Animals was available at the clinic offering low-cost Spay/Neuter and microchipping services. On Thursday, December 4, 2014 hundreds of families celebrated at the Annual Kearny UEZ Tree Lighting Festival outside Town Hall on Kearny Avenue. The festival has become a very popular tradition and the kickoff of the holiday season in Kearny. The evening began at 5:30 p.m.

On Veteran’s Day, Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at 11 a.m., American Legion Post 99 held the community’s annual Veteran’s Day Ceremony at Veteran’s Memorial Park located at Kearny Avenue and Beech Street. At the ceremony, Kearny Mayor Alberto G. Santos and Town Council members Carol Jean Doyle, Susan McCurrie and Albino Cardoso, dedicated a new park monument for the War on Terror. The new monument bears the name of Staff Sgt.
Under clear skies, Kearny’s annual Halloween parade stepped off at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 26 2014. The beautiful autumn afternoon was perfect for the ghosts and goblins, superheroes and wild animals to parade up Kearny Avenue.

On Saturday, October 11 the Kearny Scouts held a Grand Re-Opening and ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Girl Scout building. The event included a tour of the building, arts and craft projects, refreshments, speakers and open registration for any girls interested in joining the Girl Scouts.
The first four BigBelly solar-powered compacting trash cans have arrived in the Town of Kearny. These cleaner and greener cans hold up to five times the amount of trash the current cans hold and cut down on greenhouse gas emissions. They have a wireless signal technology that will notify the Town’s garbage hauler how full the cans are at any given time. This notification system will help the hauler save time since they will not have to check the compacting trash cans on a regular basis.
