Town of Kearny holds Flag Raising Ceremony in Honor of Dorothy Halpin Bolinger

(Kearny, NJ) - On Tuesday, May 8, 2018, Mayor Alberto G. Santos and Councilmembers Albino Cardoso, Marytrine De Castro, Eileen Eckel, Carol Jean Doyle and Susan McCurrie held a Flag Raising Ceremony in the Reading Garden of the Kearny Public Library. The United States flag that was unfurled at the ceremony measures 111 inches by 51 inches and was donated by the US Veterans Association in honor of the late Dorothy Halpin Bolinger.

Mayor Alberto G. Santos Issues Proclamation Designating May as Lupus Awareness Month in the Town of Kearny

On Tuesday, April 24, 2018, during the Regular Meeting of the Mayor and Town Council, Mayor Alberto G. Santos issued a Proclamation designating May as Lupus Awareness Month in the Town of Kearny to educate the public about Lupus and the needs for research funding, accurate diagnosis, and effective treatments that will lead to a cure for this devastating illness that affects so many people.

Kearny Recreation Little League Baseball Celebrates Opening

On Saturday, April 14, 2018, Mayor Alberto Santos, Town Council members and Recreation Commissioners attended opening day ceremonies for the Kearny Little League Baseball Program at Veteran’s Memorial Field.  This year, 290 children registered for participation in the baseball program which is now in its 69th year as a Town of Kearny Recreation program.  Local businesses and organizations are sponsoring 25 teams consisting of 12 little league teams, 8 minor league teams, and 5 tee-ball teams

Kearny Fire Department Swearing-in Ceremony

On Tuesday, April 10, 2018, Kearny Mayor Alberto G. Santos and the Kearny Town Council held a swearing-in ceremony at Town Hall for John DeGiovanni and Joseph Mastandrea, the newest Deputy Fire Chiefs and Ronald Protokowicz and Michael Janeczko, the newly appointed Fire Captains of the Kearny Fire Department. Mayor Santos administered the oath as their families proudly witnessed the ceremony and Kearny Fire Chief Steve Dyl presented the new fire chiefs and fire captains their badge.

Softball Opening Day

On Saturday, April 7, 2018, Mayor Alberto Santos, Town Council Members Albino Cardoso, Marytrine De Castro and Peter Santana attended opening day ceremonies for the Kearny Softball Program at Veteran’s Memorial Field.  This year, 175 children registered for participation in the softball program which is now in its 53rd year as a Town of Kearny Recreation program.  Local businesses and organizations are sponsoring 13 teams for children ages 4 through 12 and grades Pre-K through 8th.  Parents

Town of Kearny Celebrates Irish Cultural Heritage, Music and Dance: United Irish Associations of West Hudson St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Kearny, NJ – On Sunday, March 11, 2018, Irish eyes were smiling at the 45th Annual West Hudson St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  Under clear blue skies, thousands of people lined Kearny Avenue to enjoy the parade.  Organized annually by the United Irish Associations of West Hudson, the parade began in Harrison and traveled along Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard in Harrison, Central Avenue in East Newark and Kearny Avenue in Kearny, with a closing ceremony at Kearny Town Hall.
