Kearny’s annual Halloween parade stepped off at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 30, 2016. The beautiful autumn afternoon was perfect for the ghosts, goblins and superheroes to parade up Kearny Avenue. On Saturday, October 8, 2016, the Kearny Fire Department held its annual Open House at the Midland Avenue headquarters. The event included refreshments, information on fire safety and demonstrations by firefighters. On Saturday, September 24, 2016, Pathways to Independence, Inc. held their Annual Walk-A-Thon at West Hudson Park. Pathways to Independence provides job skills training and vocational opportunities for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities, helping them achieve their fullest potential. The organization’s facility is located at 60 Kingsland Avenue in Kearny. Close to 200 individuals gathered at West Hudson Park to take part in the walk.
Our community remembered those who lost their lives on 9/11/01 with an ecumenical service at St. Stephen's Church on Sunday, September 11, at 7 pm. As we did in the days and months after 9/11, our community came together again in mourning, somber reflection and friendship. The commemorative service at St. Stephen’s Church began with a candlelit procession at the 9/11 monument and a field of nearly 3,000 American flags arranged by Boy Scout Troop and Pack 305.
