I am pleased to report that the Town of Kearny reached agreements with all its municipal labor unions that contain concessions on salaries while avoiding all layoffs and demotions. These agreements will generate savings of $3.8 million in 2011, thereby strengthening the Town’s ability to meet the requirements of the new State law limiting property tax increases to 2% a year.
The agreements are as follows:
On Thursday, December 2, 2010, the Town of Kearny held its Annual Town Hall Tree Lighting Festival, sponsored by the Kearny Urban Enterprise Zone.
On Saturday December 11, 2010 , the Town of Kearny welcomed Santa Claus. Santa made an early visit to town and was escorted along Kearny Avenue, Midland Avenue and Davis Avenue by our Kearny Police and Fire Departments. Santa then made his way on stage at the Kearny High School Auditorium to meet and greet more than 550 children with candy canes, coloring books and crayons. Each child was also given a choice of a toy from a wide selection on stage.
The Town of Kearny held its 23rd annual Halloween Parade on October 31, 2010. Prior to the start of the parade, the town's Recreation Commission sponsored a children's costume contest. What follows are images that were taken by Kearny resident Barbara Goldberg.
